Origin of Janus
The title of the club's newsletter, Janus, comes from an ancient god of Roman mythology. Janus was a god of two faces, one young and one old; one face to see the future, the other to see the past. He was "the god of good beginnings' and therefore of good endings." The name Janus, then, should apply to the Fossil Club, which looks to the past for clues to the future, and also to this newsletter, which will be the beginning of something good.
