Aurora Fossil Festival
Be sure to bring your friends and family to the 16th annual Aurora Fossil Festival in Aurora, NC on Memorial Day weekend. Members of the North Carolina Fossil Club will display fossils they have found and collected both from sites in NC and elsewhere. Exhibits of those displays will be in the Community Center on Saturday, May 28. In addition, experts from the Smithsonian Institution will be available there to identify your fossil finds and to answer your questions. Outside in various locations there will be piles of fossil material from the PCS Phosphate Mine in which to hunt for your own fossils. Many other displays and vendors will also be at the Festival. Educational talks will be given in the Aurora Fossil Museum throughout the day. The Aurora Fossil Auction starts at 3:00pm and often runs until about 8:00pm. NCFC members participate in that, both to assist and to bid. Prior to the auction it is always fun and educational to visit the Aurora Fossil Museum Annex to see what will be auctioned.
Members of the NCFC who want to volunteer or display at the Festival should contact Cindy Crane Muston.
