GEOLEX - For those who like to be up to date on the latest in lithostratigraphic nomenclature (the names of rock units) and like fun interactive websites, the USGS has flicked the switch on their new stratigraphic lexicon tool, called Geolex. A previous Geolex website has been around for over a decade and was well outdated. The new version has improved data, is fun to use, and has many more resources, tools, and gadgets. Go to town! http://ngmdb.usgs.gov/Geolex/search

The NC Fossil Club entered it's website in the 2013 Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies, of which it is a member.  The winners were announced at the joint American/Southeast Mineralogical Societies meeting held this weekend in Jacksonville, Fl.  The NCFC website came in fourth in the SFMS regional competition. It gives us an opportunity to see how our website compares to others and provides opportunities for improvement. The website wouldn't be what it is today without the hard work of the website team: Jeff, Joanne, Linda, Mike, and Diane (chair), and those whose contributions of pictures and text make it what it is today.
