World Oceans Day Everyone Is Invited

June 7, 2014, All Day Discovery Place Dive into World Oceans Day and explore what makes 71 percent of the Earth's surface so amazing! Chat with experts from Polar Bears International and the North Carolina Fossil Club about polar bears and other ocean animals. Explore the many different skull types of marine mammals with naturalist Christopher Baldwin and stop by the Explore More Life lab for an up-close encounter with some marine animals. Book signing and presentation by Dr. Alan Rausch, author of Dolphins.

Join NCFC members for a Picnic, Cookout and Party in front of the Aurora Fossil Museum.  Show up when you want, start hunting and stay 'till dark if you want. The time is officially from 10:00 - 5:00, with food around noon.

There will be a mini auction after lunch to raise money for the publication fund.  Participants are urged to bring along any fossils they would like to donate to the cause.  Everything will be auctioned off. 

Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided. You are encouraged to bring your favorite side dish or dessert to share.

Vince Schneider, Curator of Paleontology at the NC Museum Natural Sciences, will be speaking at the Mebane Branch of the Alamance County Public Library on Monday, June 24 as part of their adult summer reading program.  His topic will be "A Dinosaur Named Nancy - How the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences collected a duck-billed dinosaur from Montana".  The event is scheduled for Monday, June 24th at 6:30pm at the Mebane Public Library, 101 S. The fifth annual meeting of the Southeastern Association of Vertebrate Paleontology will be held in the Department of Geology at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, on August 9-11, 2012. Following the format of past meetings, there will be an opening night registration party hosted in the Fred Webb, Jr., Outdoor Geology Laboratory (weather permitting, indoors otherwise) on Thursday, 9 August. Talks and posters will take place in the Department of Geology on Friday 10 August, including access to the exhibits and collections of the F.K. and M.J.

The NCFC Annual Meeting and Fossil Fair will be held in Whiteville, NC at the NC Museum of Forestry. Members of the club will exhibit their personal collections of fossils from NC as well as from many other places. Come visit the museum, hear special lecture presentations, and participate in activities for the whole family!  There will be a short business meeting at 5:00 p.m. to elect officers for the upcoming year.
