NC Fossil Club Fossil Fair

Cape Fear Museum, Wilmington

Saturday, October 21, 2017

Free for members or with paid admission

Organized by the North Carolina Fossil Club, the Fossil Fair is an annual gathering of fossil enthusiasts who share their passion and knowledge of paleontology with the public. Some to the best fossils found in North Carolina and beyond will be on display, from giant shark teeth, whale bone, sea urchins, shells and more! Smithsonian paleontologists will be on-site to identify fossils. Visitors are encouraged to bring fossils that need identification to the Fossil Fair.

Members from the North Carolina Fossil Club will be here to share and talk about their personal fossil collections, there will be a fossil dirt dig plus a Paleobotany demonstration.

Dino Festival

July 21, 2017

Exhibit opens July 21, 2017.

Travel back in time to a land of giants, as you explore the museum's newest exhibit, Dinosaurs: Reign of the Giants. The exhibit is highlighted by the life-size, cast skeletons of Stegosaurus, a herbivorous quadruped most notably characterized by the upright plates on its back and a tail tipped with spikes, and Triceratops, another herbivorous quadruped recognized for its large frill and three horns on its head. Dinosaurs also features a large variety of dinosaur fossils from the museum's scientific collections, as well interactive elements throughout the exhibit.

Virginia Museum of Natural History, 21 Sterling Ave., Martinsville, VA 24113 will have the Ice Age Festival featuring  a Stegadon, a relative of the mastodon that was 13 ft. high and 26 feet long and with 10 foot tusks and a cast of a sabre tooth tiger.  It will be held at the museum from 10 am to 3 pm on January 28, 2017.

The Schiele Museum of Natural History is inviting collectors, vendors, museums and universities to participate in our popular annual event this winter.  The date for our event is Saturday February 18, 2017.  We’re looking for collectors, museums and universities that would like to display their fossil and mineral collections and programs as well as vendors that wish to sell fossils, minerals and related items to the public.  Our event is well-attended, having drawn more than 900 visitors each of the past 4 years.  There is no fee for your participation.  General Admission prices + $3 per person required for attendees that are not registered as vendors

The Schiele Museum supplies tables, chairs and power.  The event space is indoors in our Environmental Studies Center, with indoor activities visible to the busy traffic along Garrison Boulevard.  The Schiele Museum is also providing a number of hands-on activities and educational programs throughout the day to make our event a well-rounded learning experience for our visitors.  If you have a presentation you would like to make we would love to hear about it!

The Rankin Museum, 131 W. Church Street, Ellerbe, NC 28338 will have a fossil fair,  Sept.24, 2016 from 10 am to 3 pm.  There will be 4 classes of 25 to 30 kids to ready them for one hours hunting in the Aurora fossil material and visits to the museum and NCFC collections inside.  The museum has the best Amazonia Collection in the Southeast. Classes will be 10 am, 11 am, 12-1 lunch, 1pm and 2 pm. Contact: Ruffin Tucker, fossiler77@msn.com if you'd like to display your fossils or for more information.

Come visit the Imagination Station Science and History Museum in Wilson, NC as they go back in time to explore prehistoric life by what’s left behind, fossils. Members of the North Carolina Fossil Club will display their collections for you to see. The guest speaker will be George Powell, an amateur paleontologist with over 50 years of fossil hunting experience. Mr. Powell will be speaking at 10 AM about fossil collecting and how to care for your collection. Guests will be able to dig in our fossil pit and participate in various fossil-themed activities.

Greetings! Come out and celebrate National Fossil Day at the Aurora Fossil Museum with other members of the NC Fossil Club! Games, prizes, fossils, and fun...what more can you ask for?? It will be from 9:30 - 4:00 in Aurora, NC. The picnic will be from 12:00 - 1:00 for NCFC members and the Friends of the Aurora Museum. Please bring a side dish if you can to go along with the hotdogs. Picnic tables will be set up outside under the canopy next to the Learning Center. There will be speakers and exhibits and books for sale in the White Building adjacent to the Learning Center (across the street from the main Museum). The reject dig pile will have a fresh load of material for everyone to find fossils to take home.There may be a trip to Greens Mill Run if enough people are interested.
